Caring For Your Poncho

CARING FOR YOUR PONCHO

The more you wash and use your ponchos, the softer and more absorbent they become.

BEFORE INITIAL USE:

To maximize absorbency, we recommend you soak your poncho in cold water for 12 hours and then hang it to dry in an open space. This allows the cotton fibres to bloom and will condition the material to reach its maximum absorbency.

After the initial soak, you should wash your ponchos in cold water.

WASHING:

Wash in cold water. If the poncho is exposed to oil, soil or germs; wash in warm water.
Select a gentle spin cycle, higher spins can cause the tassels to unravel.

AVOID FABRIC SOFTENERS:

Fabric softeners will make your poncho less absorbent.
Tip: to maximize the absorbency of your towels, add a cup of white vinegar to the wash periodically, this will remove residue and improve absorbency. Vinegar is not only a great natural fabric softener but also kills bacteria, mould and germs. This will restore your ponchos to full absorbency.

Do not bleach.

DRYING:

Air drying will allow your ponchos to last the longest. Tumble drying on a medium heat will give your ponchos the softest finish.

Ponchos can fade from long periods of direct sun exposure.

IRONING:

Regular ironing, steam or dry, can be performed at a medium setting. Ironing at high temperatures may damage the cotton fibers, decreasing the softness and lifespan of your poncho.

A PULL OR SNAG:

If your poncho has snagged and pulled out a loop or thread, simply cut the thread/loop off using a pair of scissors. This will not unravel the material.

TASSEL CARE & MAINTENANCE:

All tassels on our ponchos are hand twisted & tied by local artisans in Turkey, and over time they may begin to unravel. This is not a fault in your poncho. These can be easily knotted by making two sections and twisting each section clockwise until fully twisted. Then, take each section and wrap them around each other in an anti-clockwise direction until fully twisted around each other.
Simply finish the process by knotting the end.

Please Note: Colour variances in our ponchos is considered normal. This is due to the natural dying process.

If you follow these instructions, you will be able to love your poncho for much longer!
